The day I met a dormouse

It was the second day of dormouse box checks in West Berkshire for August and we had a little suprise on the second to last box. An adult male dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius). For more information on dormouse ecology see this infographic.

Since 2010, the Berkshire Mammal Group has been monitoring dormouse boxes at four sites in Berkshire that they visit monthly from April through till October. They cannot guarantee seeing dormice, but there is always a chance! If you are interested in taking part in any of these monthly checks then please contact their Dormouse Officer Amanda for more information.

After working on the hazel dormouse infographic for several months, finally, I was able to see a wild one! I'll never forget this amazing experience.
